The announcement that David Hardage will be nominated as the new Executive Director of the BGCT comes as happy news for me. I have known David for many years and have watched his growth in ministry. I must tell you that David is a man whose name I did not think about, but now that I have heard it I am absolutely certain he is a good man for the job. I doubt that he was on anyone's radar, which is a good thing. The committee did a great job in landing David for this job. He is well suited for it.
David has been around Texas Baptists all his life. While he was pastor of Sulphur Springs First Baptist Church he was a member of the now defunct State Missions Commission, and served with honor. The only negative about him is that he is so skinny, which comes from the fact that he is an avid runner.
For those who will think otherwise, I can tell you that David is not attached to any political group that I know of in the denomination. He is a BGCT guy, always has been. As the Executive Director of Waco Baptist Association, and a development officer at Truett Seminary, David got to know the folks at Baylor quite well, which should bode well for him in the future.
I hope the Executive Board will give him a resounding vote of acceptance and elect him unanimously.

I would tend to agree but his association with Truett makes me worry a bit about his commitment to the SBC. How involved is he with the CBF?
One thing in his favor is that the Panda doesn't like him. That's good enough for me.
Yes. He is being vilified by the right person so that raises his stock. If the Sumo Mud Wrestler applauded him then I would be worried.
David H. is a solid guy and a good choice. He has a tough job ahead of him but I think he deserves the opportunity to succeed and he will get my support.
Anonymous: Since I do not attend CBF meetings, I have no knowledge of whether or not David participates. My guess is that he does not. However, that just comes from my association with him in years past.
jlogan: I hope others feel as you do. He deserves a chance and merits our support. David is nothing if not a BGCT product, much as others of us are.
Ken, I am optimistic and grateful for the hard work of the search committee. I don't know David well, but I am willing to listen to what he has to say. I do know some of the guys on the search committee and trust their judgement. If they feel like this is man God has led to the ED job then we should all join them in prayer for the meeting next month. The Truett Media library has a sermon he preached in chapel last month up on their website. It is worth a listen. Good Stuff.
As an outsider now but one who put a lot of ministry time in the Lone Star State as a part of the BGCT, it was my privilege to serve with David on the old State Mission Commission. He is a great choice for this position!
Charlie: Great to hear fom you, and I agree 100% with your comment. I recall well his and your service on the SMC. I know David is a great communicator and believe he will be a wonderful leader. I suspect the stafff is elated at his choice.
Hopefully there is much rejoicing in the Baptist Building.
The only place I'm sure there is no rejoicing is on the Panda's blog. I'm just glad Jesus was selected as the ED because the Panda would probably criticize him too.
Meant to say glad that Jesus wasn't selected as the ED.
Sorry about the typo.
Seems that someone named Zack pointed out some interesting things on the Panda's most recent post. If its tue, then Hardage is not a good choice. Just a continuation of the same thing.
We might guess that Anonymous 7:33 and "Zack" are the same person. The Sumo Mud Wrestler claims that he does not allow anonymous comments, but he sure does allow a lot of accusations to be cast from anonymous "inside" sources. Those comments from "Zack" are the perfect blend of unverifiable statements from a supposed insider who knows something nobody else knows and can give you the "true" scoop on somebody's character. It's the perfect way to keep people coming back to your blog.
If you want to know something about David Hardage, why not go see him or call him? It seems like that would be the spiritual thing to do before making accusations about him. Is he so hard to contact that one could not speak to him before throwing stones or slinging mud? Are assumptions so easily drawn that a conversation would not matter at all?
I see a pattern here; those who actually know David Hardage speak highly of him. Those who only want to find fault and exalt themselves ask "Who?" and make unverified claims.
If you want to, you can be a real Christian man and honor Christ with your words and actions rather than wallowing in the mud, follow the Scripture, and seek to grow God's Kingdom.
Or, you can be David Montoya.
